The Southern Oregon Society for the preservation of the Queer, Occult, and Strange was formed in 1982 with the intention of preserving the many untold yet crucial histories of southern Oregon. We are a group of ametuer historians, long-time Oregonians, documentarians, anthropologists, and artists who have come together to preserve the stories of the strange and unusual in our region.
We believe that the stories of the queer, occult, and strange are crucial to understanding the history of our region and that they deserve to be preserved for future generations. Throughout the years, we have accomplished this through story catching circles, oral and written history archives, exhibitions, and support and funding for various outside projects that align with the mission of S.O.S.Q.O.S..
